The APTA Academy of Pelvic Health Physical Therapy is excited to team up with the APTA Academy of Sports Physical Therapy to discuss the do's and don’ts of exercise during pregnancy. Learn screening tools, red flags, and recommended activities to prescribe to people who are expecting. Topics will include strength training, cardiovascular exercise, and abdominal strengthening.

This webinar is designed to improve everyone's comfort level working with pregnant people and making exercise recommendations. By the end of the webinar, the participant will be able to:

  • describe effective ways to monitor effort with cardiovascular exercise
  • design strength training programs with appropriate modifications for pregnancy
  • understand how pregnancy affects the pelvic floor muscles and identify pelvic floor considerations for exercise
  • modify abdominal exercises for the pregnant person throughout pregnancy
  • recognize red flags that serve as relative or absolute contraindications to exercise during pregnancy

Duration: 45-minute discussion with 15 min Q&A at the end

Michael Turnwald, PT, DPT, SCS, OCS

Dr. Mike Turnwald, PT, SCS, OCS, CSCS, CDN, POCUS, is a certified clinical specialist in sports and orthopedic physical therapy as well as in the use of diagnostic ultrasound imaging for musculoskeletal injuries. Bringing the patience and clarity of a seasoned teacher, he also holds extensive experience in instructing other high-level professionals in these clinical specialities. He has worked with clients and professionals across all walks of life, ranging from Major League Baseball players, Olympians, and weekend warriors, to the CDC, NIOSH, and OSHA. He has even made connections with the Air Force Academy, Department of Defense, FBI, military special forces — as well as longstanding relationships with major health systems such as the Cleveland Clinic, in Ohio and beyond.


Blair Green, PT, DPT, OCS

Blair Green PT, DPT, OCS, PHC is an instructor and a pelvic health physical therapist. She graduated with her Master’s of Physical Therapy from Hahnemann University and completed a transitional DPT from Evidence in Motion Institute of Health Professions in conjunction with a Pelvic Health Certification. She is Board Certified in Orthopaedic Physical Therapy, is a Polestar trained Pilates Instructor, and a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (NSCA).
