American Physical Therapy Association

The Academy is a component association of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA), the professional organization for more than 100,000 physical therapists, physical therapist assistants, and students of physical therapy.

While the Academy operates under the APTA umbrella, it has its own Board of Directors, operations, strategic plan, member benefits, and programming. To become an Academy member, individuals must also be members of APTA and their APTA state chapter.

The Academy is an organization member of the International Organization of Physiotherapists in Pelvic & Women’s Health (IOPPWH).

IOPPWH’s mission is to serve as the international voice of physiotherapists working in pelvic and women’s health, helping connect professionals across countries and practice settings.

Allied Health Partner of the Urogynecology Journal

The Academy of Pelvic Health Physical Therapy is an Allied Health Partner of Urogynecology, the official journal of the American Urogynecologic Society. Urogynecology is a leading monthly peer-reviewed publication dedicated to specialists, physicians, and allied health professionals involved in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of female pelvic floor disorders. As part of the partnership, the Academy has a seat on the Urogynecology journal's Editorial Board, sends one Academy representative to attend an AUGS conference, and offers Academy members a discounted rate on the journal subscription. Current Academy members are eligible for an exclusive discounted 12-month digital subscription, providing access to original clinical research, basic science research, education, case reports, and emerging developments in urogynecology and pelvic floor health.

National Strategy to Close the Women’s Health Gap

The Academy selectively endorses national initiatives that align with our mission and support meaningful progress in pelvic health research, education, practice, policy, and care. The Academy of Pelvic Health Physical Therapy proudly endorses the National Strategy to Close the Women’s Health Gap. The strategy calls for a coordinated federal investment in research, innovation, data, workforce development, and public education to improve women’s health across the lifespan.

The Society for Women’s Health Research (SWHR), the American College of Obstetricians & Gynecologists (ACOG), and the Women First Research Coalition (WFRC) serve as the architects of a shared framework for measuring against a $20 billion, 10-year federal investment that will close the women’s health gap, the National Strategy to Close the Women’s Health Gap.
