CAPP Course Progression and CAPP Eligibility

Using Non-Academy Courses as Prerequisites

Common Scenarios:

  • You have completed a PH1/PF1-level course through an outside institution and wish to register for PH2-level courses offered by the Academy.

  • You have completed PH1/PF1, PH2 Bowel & Pain courses through an outside institution and wish to register for a PH3-level course offered by the Academy.

Participants may register for Academy of Pelvic Health Physical Therapy courses after completing equivalent prerequisite coursework through another institution, provided the stated prerequisites for the Academy course are met. In other words, individuals may technically progress through Academy course levels even if earlier, equivalent courses were completed elsewhere. All those that wish to use their outside coursework as prerequisites for CAPP courses, must complete a 👉 Pre-Approval Form: https://airtable.com/appt2d86HaesJEHfG/shrPV3ibITjftkl7a.

You will be asked to provide a time-ordered agenda, certificate of completion, and additional details about the prerequisite course so that the Academy can determine whether the coursework is sufficiently comparable to its own prerequisite course for progression purposes. This form is NOT for those who wish to become eligible for the CAPP. If you wish to pursue the CAPP, you are required to successfully complete all required Academy-developed courses.

CAPP Ineligibility

To be eligible for the CAPP (Certificate of Advanced Practice), participants are required to complete all Academy-developed coursework through the Academy. All courses can be found at www.aptapelvichealth.org/capp. Coursework completed through outside providers—at any level—cannot replace or waive Academy course requirements for CAPP eligibility. As such, skipping any required Academy-developed course level will result in ineligibility for the CAPP, even if comparable or equivalent coursework was completed outside the Academy.

It is important to note that each institution’s courses are independently developed and may differ in content, scope, learning objectives, and clinical application. Coursework taken outside the Academy may not fully align with the Academy curriculum, which could impact learning continuity and application in subsequent Academy courses.

This requirement is important because the Academy can only assess, evaluate, and verify learning outcomes for coursework delivered through its own programs. The CAPP is designed to recognize individuals who have successfully completed and demonstrated competency across all required Academy course levels, and the Academy is unable to test or validate learning achieved through external coursework.

We encourage you to consider your long-term professional goals when planning your course pathway. If earning the CAPP is a priority, all required course levels must be completed through the Academy. If your goal is general professional development, you are welcome to proceed through Academy courses following completion of equivalent prerequisites elsewhere.

If you change your mind and wish to retake all courses through the Academy of Pelvic Health to be eligible for CAPP, you can request a course transfer discount at https://airtable.com/appt2d86HaesJEHfG/shrJmlnJZGdjAO1uN that you can use to retake courses through the Academy.
