Overview
The Tackling Sacroiliac and Pelvic Girdle Dysfunction: A Novel Approach Using the Pelvic Girdle Musculoskeletal Method webinar course has been restructured into a hybrid format, consisting of 4 hours of on-demand content and a 3.5-hour live webinar (for a total of 7.5 CEUs). Participants will receive access to the on-demand portion of the course immediately upon registration. During the scheduled live webinar, participants will meet with the instructor to complete the remaining course content and participate in interactive learning activities.
This course provides an excellent foundation for effectively diagnosing and treating individuals with pelvic girdle dysfunction, including sacroiliac pain, and is applicable across the lifespan—from adolescents to geriatrics, including pregnancy and postpartum populations.
Topics include anatomy and biomechanics, literature review (diagnosis, special tests, and interventions), current recommendations, The Pelvic Girdle Musculoskeletal Method℠ (PGM Method℠), and a case study. This method, developed by Deborah Riczo, is presented alongside supporting evidence and offers a simplified yet comprehensive clinical approach. PGM Method special tests and specific self–pelvic balancing exercises are introduced and practiced with dedicated group lab time.
Patient handouts are included for use in the clinic. The course incorporates lecture, group discussion and activities, and video (including specific patient videos), and is highly interactive in nature.
Participants will develop quick, clinically applicable screening tools and a step-by-step approach to managing sacroiliac and pelvic girdle dysfunction that can be readily used “on Monday morning” after the course. This course has been highly rated by past participants for its practicality and immediate clinical relevance.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:
- Appreciate the musculoskeletal anatomy and biomechanics of the pelvic girdle and what
structures are commonly involved in dysfunction. - Identify and palpate externally key bony landmarks, muscles and ligaments of the pelvic
girdle that commonly are involved in dysfunction. - Discuss the current evidence supporting the use of movement based, static symmetry
and pain provocation special tests for sacroiliac dysfunction. - Understand the components of the PGM Method SM and the construct upon which it is
based. - Identify four special tests used in the Pelvic Girdle Musculoskeletal Method ℠ (PGM
Method℠) and demonstrate confidence in performing these tests. - Demonstrate confidence in instructing an algorithm of specific pelvic self-balancing
exercises used in the PGM Method℠ and understand progressions to core
strengthening, targeted flexibility and strengthening with considerations for pregnancy
and postpartum. - Understand the role that healthcare-to-patient communication and biopsychosocial
factors play in successful rehab.
