Professional Bio

Dr. Catherine "Cat" Lewan PT DPT attended her first evidence-based pelvic floor course in 2004 as a fitness trainer. She went on to integrate pelvic floor into Pilates, Yoga and Personal Training instruction. By 2010, she earned a Doctorate in Physical Therapy and further specialized in orthopedics and pelvic health. With 15+ years of clinical experience, Dr. Cat is known as a lifelong learner with a compassionate, person-centered approach to care. She is a patient-clinician-educator-research PT, insomuch as she lives with some of the conditions that she treats and studies. Dysautonomia and hypermobility syndromes present with a variety of multi-systemic symptoms including chronic pain & pelvic pain, gastrointestinal and bladder symptoms. Dr. Cat's unique approach prioritizes the patient's wholeness, autonomy, agency and validation of their experience. With a strong therapeutic alliance, the client can feel at ease and the nervous system can shift into vagal "rest-digest-restore." This allows the body to utilize its own natural resources for healing, making any subsequent treatments more effective. Living with with hEDS, POTS and other chronic conditions necessitates ongoing creative problem-solving, interdisciplinary learning and cultivation of resources that Dr. Cat's patients benefit from. She enjoys working with clients with persistent pain who are courageous enough to try different practitioners or approaches until they find meaningful and sustainable shifts that allow them to reclaim a sense of confidence and ease . Dr. Cat is currently accepting virtual health coaching (all states) and PT telehealth in SC or onsite at 769 Meeting St, Charleston SC.
