Dr. Catherine Lewan PT DPT has 15 years of clinical experience and is currently studying vagal nerve stimulation, dysautonomia and hypermobility spectrum disorders at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston SC. Dysautonomia and hypermobility syndromes present with a variety of multi-systemic symptoms including chronic pain, pelvic pain, gastrointestinal and bladder symptoms. Dr. Lewan has developed a unique approach that prioritizes the patient's wholeness, autonomy, agency and validation of their experience. With a strong therapeutic alliance, optimization of vagal "rest-digest-restore" functioning allows the body to best heal itself, making subsequent treatments more effective. Dr. Lewan lives with hEDS, POTS and other chronic conditions that have necessitated ongoing creative problem-solving, interdisciplinary learning and cultivation of resources that her patients benefit from. She has limited availability for virtual health coaching (all states) and PT (IL and SC) or onsite PT at 769 Meeting St, Charleston SC. She is out of network for all insurances.
