Jenny Bagwell, PT, DPT, PhD

Dr. Jenny Bagwell is an assistant professor of Physical Therapy at California State University, Long Beach as well as Associate Editor of the Journal of Women's & Pelvic Health Physical Therapy. Jenny received her Doctorate of Physical Therapy from Duke University and her PhD in Biokinesiology from the University of Southern California. Her long-term research objective is to improve maternal quality of life and reduce orthopedic pathology. Her research utilizes biomechanical and clinical tools to investigate potentially modifiable factors, such as muscle function and joint demand, as related to orthopedic conditions during and after pregnancy to inform prevention and intervention strategies. She is an active member of the American Physical Therapy Association Academies of Pelvic Health, Physical Therapy Research, and Orthopedic Physical Therapy, and of the Biomechanics Special Interest Group.

Patrícia Mota, PT, PhD

Patrícia Mota is a Women's Health Physical Therapist and got her Ph.D. in Biomechanics focusing on the morphological and functional adaptations of the abdominal wall during pregnancy and postpartum, at the University of Lisbon. During her Ph.D., the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology funded her studies, and she also received the International Society of Biomechanics Dissertation Grant. Her research focuses on the abdominal wall, diastasis, exercise effect on the inter-rectus distance, and pelvic floor muscle activation after tears, which resulted in many peer-reviewed publications.

Patrícia is a full-time professor at the Escola Superior de Tecnologia da Saúde de Lisboa, Instituto Politécnico de Lisboa, where the main teaching subjects are Women's Health, focusing on Exercise during Pregnancy and Exercise Physiology among others. She is also a research member at H&TRC and the Neuromechanics of Human Movement research group at the University of Lisbon. She is now a Visiting Scholar at California State University Long Beach, where she keeps studying women.
