During this seminar, participants will be introduced to foundational concepts of universal trauma precautions and the use of motivational interviewing. We will focus on techniques that promote patient autonomy and reduce feelings of vulnerability that are common among people who have experienced trauma. The spirit of motivational interviewing consists of three key elements: (1) collaboration; (2) supporting self-direction and choice; and (3) evocation, the process of focusing on the patient’s values and innate tendency towards personal growth.

Rose M. Pignataro, PT, DPT, PhD, CHES
Rose Pignataro is a Doctor of Physical Therapy and holds a PhD in public health. She is a certified health education specialist and currently serves as a tenured Professor and Assistant Chair of Physical Therapy at Emory & Henry University. Dr. Pignataro’s scholarly agenda and clinical practice focus on health promotion and wellness, particularly among people with chronic pain and other conditions that cause disability.
