Post Prostatectomy Sexual Function in Gay and Bisexual Men
Hosted by the IDEA Committee
Emerging research clarifies the health inequities seen in sexual function for Gay and Bisexual men. These differences were previously not recorded and therefore invisible. Learn techniques to specifically address these concerns with your patients!
Nearly every patient post-prostatectomy will struggle with sexual function. Gay and bisexual men as well as their partners face unique functional and cultural challenges. Emerging research is beginning to address these previously underappreciated and unmeasured factors. Join us to learn more about this patient population as well as techniques to address these concerns with your patients. We will be discussing general post prostatectomy outcomes and expectations, how this particularly affects the LGBTQ community, and considerations for PT treatment.
Attendees will:
- Be able to identify unique considerations of sexual function for gay and bisexual men
- Feel more confident engaging LGBTQ patients in discussion of sexual function
- Identify gaps in the research where heteronormativity may be limiting scope of knowledge
