Pelvic Floor 101: Function, Sexual Health & Patient Care is an educational webinar designed primarily for students, while also welcoming early-career and experienced clinicians who wish to strengthen or refresh their foundational understanding of pelvic floor and sexual health. Hosted by Dr. Uchenna Ossai, a pelvic floor physical therapist and sexual health expert, this session introduces essential concepts related to pelvic floor anatomy, function, and its role in sexual health and overall well-being.
This webinar emphasizes practical application, inclusive communication, and patient-centered care, making it relevant for learners at various stages of training and clinical practice. Content is intentionally accessible while remaining clinically meaningful, supporting attendees who want to increase confidence, reduce stigma, and improve patient interactions around pelvic floor and sexual health topics.
After participating in this webinar, participants will be able to:
- Describe the anatomy and primary functions of the pelvic floor
- Explain the connection between pelvic floor health, sexual health, and overall quality of life
- Identify common pelvic floor dysfunctions and how they may present clinically
- Communicate more confidently and inclusively about pelvic floor and sexual health concerns
- Apply patient-centered language when addressing sensitive topics
- Identify appropriate referral options for pelvic floor–related conditions
Speaker
Dr. Uchenna Ossai
Dr. Uchenna “UC” Ossai is a sex-positive pelvic health physical therapist, sexuality educator and counselor. Dr. UC is currently serving in the role as assistant professor at University of Utah in Salt Lake City in the Department of Physical Therapy. She is also currently on faculty for the University of Michigan School of Social Work’s Sexual Health Certification Program. Dr. UC previously served as assistant professor at the University of Texas Dell Medical School as well as pelvic health program manager and clinical education rotation director at UT Health Austin for five years. Dr. UC has clinical, research, and educational expertise in complex pelvic floor disorders, sexual function and dysfunction that centers intersectionality and biopsychosocial factors. She is a national and international speaker and is on the medical advisory boards for Origin, O.School, and Dame Products. Dr. UC also serves as a consultant for DEI strategy as well as clinical and educational audit and planning for small businesses and large start-ups. When it comes to sexual intelligence and great sex education, UC embraces always being unapologetically real, happily crunk, and deliciously kind.
Dr. UC received her clinical doctorate in physical therapy at the University of Chicago, and she completed her residency in Women’s Health at Washington University at St. Louis. Dr. UC went on to continue her post-graduate training at the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor, where she received her certificate in Sexuality Education and Counseling.
