Free Webinar | Empowered Healing: Trauma-Informed Care in Pelvic Health Physical Therapy

This workshop will discuss what trauma-informed care is and how to implement it in the clinic. The workshop will include chat-based reflections and prompts on trauma-informed care, optional verbal sharing and group discussion, and guided case-based scenarios to explore trauma-informed clinical responses. Participants are invited to participate through use of microphone or chat box if they are comfortable sharing. By the end of the session, participants will leave with a grounded understanding of trauma-informed care and practical tools to create a more compassionate, empowering, and consent-rich clinical environment.

- Understanding of why trauma-informed care matters
- Learning how trauma affects the nervous system
- Identify the six core principles of trauma-informed care and analyze how they apply in pelvic health
- Discuss strategies for adapting language, environment, and clinical procedures to foster trust and autonomy
- Demonstrate how the power of offering choice, transparency, and co-created care enhance patient safety in pelvic health settings
- Explore cultural considerations in pelvic health
Speaker
Maggie Abrams, PT, DPT, Board-Certified Clinical Specialist in Women’s Health Physical Therapy
Maggie joined the Pelvic Health Physical Therapy team at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center in 2014 and obtained board-certified in Women's Health in 2017. She has served as Program Director for the Women’s Health Physical Therapy Residency at Ohio State since 2019. In this leadership role, she has championed wellness initiatives for both residents and clinicians and designed an innovative leadership curriculum implemented across ambulatory rehabilitation residency and fellowship programs. Maggie has completed advanced training in visceral manipulation and is deeply committed to trauma-informed care and the principles of Motivational Interviewing. She is passionate about supporting patients with a wide range of abdominal and pelvic health concerns.
