Below the Belt is a documentary that explores endometriosis and the experiences of individuals navigating diagnosis, treatment, and the healthcare system. Through patient stories and perspectives from healthcare professionals, the film highlights the significant burden of endometriosis, challenges associated with delayed or missed diagnosis, barriers to accessing appropriate care, and broader gaps in women’s healthcare.
This free screening will provide ACHE students with an opportunity to increase their awareness of endometriosis while considering the importance of patient-centered communication, interdisciplinary care, and advocacy for individuals experiencing chronic pelvic pain and related symptoms.
What You Will Learn & Do
- Describe common symptoms and the potential impact of endometriosis on health, function, and quality of life.
- Identify healthcare-system and societal factors that may contribute to delayed recognition and diagnosis of endometriosis.
- Recognize the importance of listening to and validating patient experiences when individuals present with persistent pelvic pain or other symptoms associated with endometriosis.
- Consider the roles of different healthcare professionals in supporting individuals with endometriosis and other pelvic health conditions.
- Reflect on opportunities for future healthcare professionals to improve awareness, communication, advocacy, and patient-centered care related to women’s health.
