Empowering Women Through Pelvic Health: What You Need to Know

OWH highlighted the week on social media and posted resources for providers and the public, including a social media toolkit. OWH also published an educational blog post about what women need to know about their pelvic floor.

Every May, we celebrate National Women’s Health Week, a time to highlight the importance of prioritizing women's physical, mental, and emotional well-being at every stage of life. As the FDA Office of Women’s Health reminds us, this week is more than just a health awareness campaign—it's a call to action for women to take charge of their health and for providers to offer the education and resources they need to do so.

One vital, yet often overlooked, area of women’s health is pelvic floor health. Many women experience symptoms like bladder leakage, pelvic pressure, pain with intimacy, or bowel dysfunction—and don’t realize that these may be signs of pelvic floor dysfunction. Fortunately, education and early intervention can make a lasting difference.

The FDA recently published a helpful blog post titled “What Women Need to Know About Their Pelvic Floor,” which breaks down pelvic floor basics, common conditions, and how a pelvic health physical therapist can help. Whether you're navigating postpartum recovery, managing menopause-related changes, or addressing chronic symptoms, understanding your pelvic floor is key to long-term wellness.
