Pediatric Special Interest Group Director (PEDSIG)

MISSION & VISION

The Pediatric Pelvic Health Physical Therapy Special Interest Group (PEDSIG) for academy members is committed to advancing the field of pediatric pelvic health physical therapy through education, research, and advocacy. We strive to enhance the knowledge and skills of healthcare professionals, promote research, and advocate for the needs of pediatric patients and their families by providing a cohesive platform for collaboration, innovation, and outreach. We aim to improve the quality of care and outcomes for children with pelvic health conditions.

Our vision is to be a leading force in transforming pediatric pelvic health physical therapy, ensuring all children have access to comprehensive, compassionate, and effective pelvic health physical therapy treatment by increasing awareness, providing educational resources, and cultivating collaboration within the broader physical therapy community and with other healthcare providers dedicated to the treatment of children with pelvic health conditions

RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Promote Academy membership, events, opportunities, and benefits 
  2. Increase and diversify educational resources for physical therapy professionals and the public on pediatric pelvic health physical therapy 
  3. Encourage the exchange of information relevant to pediatric pelvic health physical therapy
  4. Coordinate activities and campaigns to increase member and community engagement on pediatric pelvic health physical therapy topics 
  5. Connect and engage with current and prospective members 
  6. Carry out any initiatives as assigned by the Academy Board of Directors within the scope of the strategic plan 
  7. Execute the PEDSIG Strategic Plan
TIMING AND COMMUNICATION

To establish consistent communication, the SIG will: 

  • Report any key updates to the designated Board Liaison 

  • Schedule SIG meetings and send meeting agendas to SIG members and the Board Liaison

  • Submit meeting minutes within 7 days of the meeting to the SIG members and the Board Liaison

  • Submit quarterly volunteer reports to the Academy Office. The quarterly report shall consist of key highlights, achievements, and progress updates on current initiatives 

  • Submit an annual plan that identifies each director’s roles and objectives for the year 

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Must be a currently active Academy of Pelvic Health Physical Therapy PT or PTA members in good standing for one (1) year by the close of the nominations period. Must be able to maintain membership throughout their term. 

  • 2 Directors will be elected every 2 years. There will always be 4 directors serving, each serving a 2-year term. However, to establish staggered rotations on and off the SIG, initial terms will vary: two (2) members will be elected to a 2-year term and two (2) Directors will be appointed to a 1-year term. A Director can re-run and if elected, may serve up to 1 successive term to the same office.
ADMINISTRATION

Funding: No SIG director shall expend any money not provided in the Academy’s organization budget as adopted by the Academy Board or spend any money in excess of the budget allotment except by permission of the Academy Board of Directors. 

Onboarding: Orientation of the new Directors shall be done by the outgoing director(s), Board Liaison and Staff Liaison. 

Resignation: A SIG Director shall submit a Volunteer Resignation form and inform their Board Liaison. In the event of resignation prior to the end of the respective Director’s term, the Academy Board will appoint another member to serve the remainder of the term.

Internal Structure: At the onset of the annual term cycle, the SIG will meet to establish a division of responsibilities specific to the SIG’s objectives for the coming year. Here is an example of how roles can be divided. Once decided, the SIG must notify the Board and Staff Liaison of the roles agreed upon.

    1. Director:

      1. Schedules meetings and prepares the meeting agendas.

      2. Serves as the key contact or liaison representing the SIG.

    2. Director:

      1. Takes meeting minutes and shares with SIG directors.

      2. Maintains the organization of the SIG Google Drive.

      3. Submits a quarterly progress report of SIG activities.

    3. Director: 

      1. Submits any budget requests to the Academy (if any).

      2. Leads SIG projects or oversees a SIG task force.

    4. Director: 

      1. Social media and engagement liaison.

      2. Leads SIG projects or oversees a SIG task force.
