President

Responsibilities

  • Execute all Board of Directors Shared Duties in addition to the position-specific duties listed below
  • Serve on the Executive Committee and appoint volunteers to committees and task forces

Meetings

  • Board Meetings

    • Actively attend, lead and engage in monthly Board meetings

    • Contribute agenda topics for Board meetings and provide supplemental files

    • Review meeting minutes, proposals, consent, and business agendas prior to each meeting

    • Attend bi-annual or annual 2-3 day strategic retreats

    • Submit, review, discuss and vote on Board proposals

    • Conduct meetings using Robert’s Rules of Order (parliamentary order)

    • Promote unity and collaboration on the Board while promoting healthy debates and discussion

    • Co-draft monthly Board Meeting agendas with the Executive Director

    • Plan and lead annual/bi-annual Board retreats and strategic discussions

    • Initiate professional development activities for the Board

    • Address and resolve conflicts within the Board

  • Executive Director and President-Elect Meetings

    • Meet with the Executive Director and President-Elect (every other year based on election cycle) on a bi-weekly basis to highlight priority issues/ideas that need attention

  • Other Meetings

    • Attend Executive Committee Meetings (if scheduled)

    • Attend APTA Component Leadership Meetings

    • Attend APTA Component Presidents Meetings

    • Attend APTA House of Delegates Meetings

Communication

  • Communicate weekly with the Executive Director in between meetings with the Executive Director

  • Build and strengthen relationships with officers, directors, volunteers, members, staff through regular communication

  • Co-draft Public Relations letters and statements addressed to members or external stakeholders

Ambassadorship

  • Serve as the Academy’s official spokesperson and Chief Delegate to IOPTPWH

  • Serve as Liaison between the Board, Executive Director and the APTA

Reporting

  • Co-develop the annual State of the Academy PowerPoint presentation and provide updates to the membership on behalf of the Board

TIME COMMITMENT

Times listed below may fluctuate depending on changing business priorities and the urgency of critical board discussions and votes that must take place.

  • Electronic Communication (Email, Slack): 4-8 hours/month
  • APTA CSM Meetings: Up to 6 days to represent the Academy, meet with volunteers, attend APTA Component Leadership meetings
  • Board Meetings: 2-3 hours/month preparation time
  • Committee Meetings: 1-2 hours/month
  • Monthly Zoom Meetings: 1-2 hours/month meeting time
  • Annual In-Person Retreats: 2-4 Days
  • Read and comment on meeting materials: 1-2 hours before each meeting
  • Executive Director and President/President-Elect Meetings: 1-2 hours every other week or as more frequently as needed 
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Must have served for 1 year as President-Elect before transitioning to the 2-year President term
  • Must have been an APTA Pelvic Health member for at least 2 consecutive years prior to the election
  • Cannot be an active independent contractor contracted with APTA Pelvic Health or a direct competitor during the term of service according to Conflict of Interest policy
  • Prior role in Academy board or committee leadership (desired)
  • Prior experience in board leadership (required)
  • Prior volunteer experience within APTA Pelvic Health (required)
  • Passion and positive attitude about teamwork, pelvic health, adaptability, flexibility, and innovation
  • Leadership, mentoring and meeting management experience
  • Good technology and social media skills
  • Good listening and decision-making skills
  • Networking and negotiation skills
  • Interest in related advocacy, regulatory, and legislative strategies 
  • Good time management and organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to multitask
  • Strong problem-solving and mediation skills when sensitive situations arise within the Academy
