Urogenital, Gynecological, & Sexual Health in Menopause

Menopause brings significant changes to the genitourinary system and sexual function, often impacting quality of life. This session reviews the underlying physiologic shifts, common symptoms including GSM and HSDD, and practical, evidence-based treatments to restore comfort, function, and sexual well-being.

Learning Objectives
  • Summarize the key pathophysiologic effects of estrogen deficiency on urogenital tissues, pelvic structures, and sexual function.
  • Recognize common genitourinary and gynecologic manifestations of menopause, including GSM and related urinary symptoms. Identify sexual health concerns in menopause — including dyspareunia, arousal changes, and hypoactive sexual desire disorder (HSDD).
  • Apply evidence-based hormonal and non-hormonal treatments for GSM and menopausal sexual health concerns.
  • Discuss emerging therapeutic options and future directions in genitourinary and sexual health during menopause

Lindsey Plato-Johnson, DNP (Doctor of Nursing Practice), FNP-BC (Board Certified Family Nurse Practitioner), MSCP (Menopause Society Certified Practitioner), CCTP (Certified Clinical Trauma Professional)

Lindsey Plato-Johnson (“LPJ”), DNP, FNP-BC, AQH, MSCP, CCTP, is a doctorally prepared Family Nurse Practitioner specializing in chronic pelvic pain, menopause, and migraine care. Her work centers on the intersection of hormonal health, neurologic conditions, and complex pain disorders across the lifespan.

Lindsey is a Menopause Society Certified Practitioner, holds a Certificate of Added Qualification in Headache Medicine, and is a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional. She also has advanced training in AI applications in healthcare.

She is dedicated to evidence-based practice, patient education, and improving outcomes through thoughtful, multidisciplinary clinical care.
