The Foundation for Physical Therapy Research is excited to announce a $40,000 Pelvic Health Research Grant, tailored to match the key priorities of the Academy of Pelvic Health Physical Therapy. Thanks to the generous support from the Academy's Research Excellence in Pelvic Health Physical Therapy Fund, this grant opens doors to innovative discoveries!

Award Amount: The Foundation expects to make one (1) award of $40,000 for a period of either (1) one or (2) two years. The amount of the award will be the same, regardless of the period of performance. The Foundation reserves the right not to make this award. All the funded research must be carried out in the United States (U.S.).

Eligibility: Applicants for the $40,000 Pelvic Health Research Grant must ensure their sponsoring institution is a legally registered U.S.-based entity, while principal investigators must be employed by eligible U.S. institutions, hold membership in APTA and the APTA Academy of Pelvic Health Physical Therapy, possess relevant licensure, citizenship status, and fulfill leadership responsibilities. Please see a summary of the requirements outlined below.

For Sponsoring Institutions:

  • Must be a legally registered U.S.-based institution, non-profit or for-profit.
  • Required to sign the Letter of Agreement.
  • Accountable for implementing the research project as agreed and managing funds appropriately.

For Principal Investigators (PI):

Definition of PI: Leads research, signs Letter of Agreement, provides oversight, ensures quality, submits reports, and disseminates results.

  • Employed by a U.S.-based eligible institution.
  • Member of APTA and APTA Academy of Pelvic Health Physical Therapy at application and throughout grant duration.
  • Holds U.S. physical therapy or physical therapist assistant license, or meets licensure requirements. PI cannot be a student; degree completion required by September 15, 2024.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen, permanent resident with valid Green Card, or have right to work in U.S. for grant duration.
  • Assumes substantive research and leadership role, responsible for project implementation.
  • Must be in Good Standing with the Foundation if prior grant recipient.
  • No concurrent Foundation awards; any existing award must be closed.

For Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) Applicants:

  • Foundation supports studies where physical therapists provide interventions, or PTAs provide components under PT supervision.
